From 29/06/2014 to 06/07/2014
From June 29 to July 6, 2014 visitors can experience a lively jazz scene at the Parvis de la Défense in Paris. The Parvis is a large square in the city's Défense neighborhood. Although it is not considered to be a tourist spot, during the Défense Jazz Festival the area attracts visitors who want to catch the soulful shows.
During the festival free concerts will be performed outdoors during the afternoon and evening. A variety of jazz will be played, from traditional jazz to jazz rock and jazzy world music. In 2013, the festival attracted an impressive 43,000 spectators and this year is on track to create the same kind of buzz.
The festival gets off to a roaring start on June 29th, when the Daptone Super Soul Revue makes its French premiere during the opening show. The show features the Dap-Kings, a group which went from venerable jazz band to worldwide super stars after backing up Amy Winehouse. The Dap-Kings are the longtime backup band of Sharon Jones, who is also part of the Daptone Super Soul Revue. As a result, the festival truly begins with a bang as these megawatt stars pump the Parisian air full of funky beats.
Then, every afternoon from June 30th to July 4, a double-feature of artists will play starting at noon. On June 30th, it is Harleighblu and Lisa and The Lips who kick off the afternoon sessions. For the closing weekend, a combination of jazz and electronic music will be honored as Mehliana featuring Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana as well as Wax Tailor & The Phonovisions Symphonic Orchestra, among others, take the stage.
Guests staying at the Résidence Henri IV can enjoy the Défense Jazz Festival during their summer stay in Paris.
