On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, Irving Penn, the American artist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century is honored, from September 21, 2017, to January 29, 2018, at the Grand Palais des Champs Elysées with a retrospective that is entirely dedicated to his work.
In an attempt to popularize the work of this artist among the younger generations, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Irving Penn Foundation, the Réunion des musées nationaux—Grand Palais, has gathered more than 230 photographic prints as well as rare paintings and drawings produced by Penn throughout his career.
Beauty, fashion, still life, nudes, cigarettes, portraits and debris, all of these themes will be covered in the exhibition, highlighting the artist’s preference for minimalism and simplicity as a style.
