There are some artists where you can hang a couple of paintings in a gallery and draw in the crowds. A single masterpiece in the right setting is enough to showcase the talent and vision of the artist. Then there are those that have such a large place in art history, and such a bold body of work, that they need a lot more space. Jean-Michel Basquiat is one such artist, and it should come as little surprise that the Fondation Louis Vuitton has decided to give over four floors of the Frank Gehry building to this new exhibition.
This vast show brings together a series of Basquiat's work from across his lifetime. This may be only a short period, following his death in 1988, but he was prolific and highly influential during this time. Some of these pieces have never been in Europe, so this is a rare treat for Parisian art lovers.
The show continues in the gallery until January 14th. So, be there !
